Dr. Erik M. Fotheringham
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and your family. My name is Dr. Erik M. Fotheringham and chiropractic is both a very important and integral part of my life. Many people often wonder what chiropractic is and how can it help them. Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions about the effects and benefits of chiropractic care. Hopefully, I can shed a little light on what chiropractic is and why I chose to practice this particular branch of the six main healthcare professions recognized by the World Health Organization.
Injuries from racing motorcycles are what originally got me involved with chiropractic. In fact, I was in the process of attending my second year in the pre-dental program at the University of Detroit Mercy when my low back pain had progressed to the point where I was in constant pain and could no longer exercise and race motorcycles. To be in this type of pain at the age of 20 and no longer have the ability to enjoy and perform in the sport that I loved so much, was almost unbearable. Luckily, my dad convinced me to visit the local chiropractor in town. Soon after the doctor performed his initial consultation and exam to verify that I was a candidate for care, my life would change forever. The doctor had found multiple subluxations, which are better known as pinched nerves. He believed that if he was able to remove the pressure on the nerve by utilizing chiropractic care, I would no longer be in pain. After several adjustments spanning a few weeks, I was no longer in pain and had also experienced a noticeable increase in overall range of motion and no longer felt near as lethargic as I once did. The science, art and philosophy of chiropractic believes that if a chiropractor can remove nerve interference from the nervous system through adjustments, that the body will be able to comprehend its environment and express this through radiant health.
While finishing graduate school I also managed to finish my bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Oakland University. As a fresh graduate in September of 2002, I moved back to Michigan and worked as an associate doctor for two years at a well respected clinic in Shelby Township. In spring of 2005, eager to build a clinic in the area that I grew up in, I decided to open my own practice in Clarkston, Michigan.
As a young person, I always knew that I wanted to become a doctor and help people. It is a shear joy to be able to provide chiropractic services to people that need the care. Chiropractic can help in the reduction of many symptoms from headaches, neck pain, low back pain, auto accidents, workers comp, sports injuries, and even preventative care in children. Feel free to browse through this website and gather as much information as you can through the educational tabs and chiropractic links provided. If you have any additional questions feel free to contact the clinic and schedule a consultation for you and your family.
Yours in health,
Dr. Erik
